DRONACHARYA.....THE TEACHER OF GODS

DEAR READERS,

"A teacher affects eternity; he/she can never tell where the influence stops". We all have faced different types of teachers in our lifetime but their influence has made a lot of positive changes to our life. There is one such teacher or guru as referred in history whose teachings have created an impact that somewhat resulted in the commencement of Mahabharata war. The highly regarded teacher of all time---DRONACHARYA.

Drona is considered as the first test tube baby in the world. The story of his birth was interesting. He was born to sage Bharadwaja and  was the successor of sage Angirasa. Once upon a while, sage Bharadwaja was bathing in river when he saw apsara Ghritachi. He was so attracted to her that he was overcome by his desire and produced a reproductive fluid. He was so embarrassed by his deeds that he stored the liquid in a pot in a dark room. Thus, a new born baby boy spranged out of the pot.Seeing this his father named him "DRONACHARYA" which means "BRAHMIN BORN FROM A POT".
('DRONA' means 'POT' and 'ACHARYA' means 'SAGE' or 'BRAHMIN').

He spent his childhood and youth in total poverty but he had a very loyal friend named 'DRUPAD'. He had promised that he will continue his friendship and give half of his kingdom to him once he becomes the king. But, he was betrayed when Drupad became king of panchala. He approached him to remind the promise but he was thrashed out of the kingdom by the guards. The friendship now turned into rivalry, just then he heard that SAGE PARSHURAM is giving away all his possessions to brahmins, he hurriedly made his way to ashram to meet the GOD himself as he was the incarnation of LORD VISHNU. But after reaching he realized that the great sage was left only with weapons. So he handed them to Drona and hence that was the birth of a great warrior who later became a great teacher. He married a lady named KRIPI who was the sister of KRIPACHARYA , who became the royal teacher of hastinapur. They were blessed with a son named ASHWATHAMA.

The journey of Drona as a teacher began when he saw a bunch of kids near a well. After asking he found that they were the princesses of Hastinapur. Their ball had fallen into the well and they were unable to bring it out.So, he took out the ball from his well by making a rope of grasses which made the princesses dumb and astonished. Listening to the incident from the prince, BHISHMA realised that he would be none other than Dronacharya himself and also it was the perfect time to send the young princesses to the ashram of Drona for their lessons. It was then when the reputation of the teacher began to expand all over the world and the fire of vengeance from Drupad started burning within him. Dronacharya trained all the kauravas and pandavas to the full potential and made them the warriors with whom nobody can mess with.

Mahabharata's story took a turn when a simple boy of Nishad community came to Drona to become his pupil. He was bluntly rejected by him as he was a tribal boy and the teacher trained only the Kshatriyas. The boy was EKLAVYA. He then made a statue of his beloved teacher and practiced in front of it. It left the his other students baffled and a question of dignity came on him. When Drona recognized, he went to him and asked for fees(guru dakshina). On asking what he wanted as fees, Drona asked for his right finger. This is because he wanted that there should be one great archer in the universe----ARJUNA.
He also took the revenge from Drupad by sending the pandavas to capture and bring him on to his knees. They did the same and the revengeful Brahmin took half of his kingdom as promised and forgave him for his misdeeds. He was then a permanent member in the palace of hastinapur and was asked for advices time and again for the betterment of the dynasty.

Looking at his personality, could anyone imagine that he was one of the person who was dumb and silent when the 'vastra-haran' of draupadi happened. He also supported the kauravas in the battle and stood against his favorite pupil Arjuna for whom he neglected the skills of KARNA and EKLAVYAIt would not be wrong to say that he was worried about his position which could have been at stake if he would have dared to open his mouth. He was also the mastermind behind the plan of 'CHAKRAVYUH' in which he himself forgot all the rules of battle and killed 'ABHIMANYU' where all warriors surrounded him from all sides. He even guarded 'JAYADRATH' so that Arjuna couldn't kill him to take the revenge of his sons's death. Drona was blessed with Divyastra--the lethal weapon by Parshuram but had to use it against the opponent with equal capabilities. But, he used it to kill the thousands and lakhs of soldiers of pandavas.

While climbing the stairs of glory in his life, he had made a lot of enemies out of which Drupad and Eklavya were the most prominent ones. Some texts also provide the information that Eklavya gave away his finger but was waiting to take a revenge from Drona for his deeds. He was given a boon by LORD KRISHNA on the death bed that he would reborn to take the revenge and hence he was born as 'DRISHTADYUMNA'--- SON OF DRUPAD.

Seeing the merciless killings the pandavas made a plan to kill Drona by attacking on his weak zone. Bhima killed one of the elephant with the name of Ashwathama and the half news was conveyed to Drona that his son is killed. He gave up the war and came on his knees and asked for the truth from Yudhisthir. As he was the symbol of truth, he conveyed in a cryptic manner that,
"Ashwathama is dead, but it is an elephant and not your son", he slowly said the last few words and the shell was blown by Lord Krishna. He went into deep meditation where his soul went in search of his son's soul. At that moment, Drishtadyumna beheaded the unarmed warrior taking his revenge in a gross violation of rules of war.

He was considered to be the incarnation of BRIHASPATI---THE TEACHER OF GODS.  Being such a great warrior and teacher he didn't justify his role and was always adamant to his decision.
Mahabharata would have been different if drona wouldn't have asked for the right finger from Eklavya. That could have saved him from his brutal death. As a teacher, he had all rights to stop Duryodhana from doing the sins. But, for him his greed was more important than the status of a woman. After gaining the popularity and becoming the greatest guru of all time, he satisfied his greed by taking away half kingdom of Drupad.

While his soul moved in search of his son, Lord Krishna came in between and intervened him. "Why such false statements were conveyed to me about my son, what mistake have I done ?",asked  Drona. "Guru,You are the ocean of sins not mistakes. Don't you remember what did to Eklavya who was just a mere pupil? Don't you remember what you did to Drupad? Where were your principles and teachings when Draupadi was getting draped off in the court? Where were your rules of battle when you killed Abhimanyu ?, It is easy to point out, but very hard to find your own loop holes. Dharma always stood by them who forgive others, who think of others before them, who stop the injustice and above all who are not greedy to satisfy their own needs. You have no right to ask questions as you are yourself a question. O !! Guru Drona, now travel to the doors of death and your fate will be decided there. Who am I to say, it is the DHARMA AND KARMA who decides and verifies. May Dharma be bestowed upon you.", saying this The God walked off leaving the soul of a great teacher and warrior hovering in the skies of sins in search of peace.

Nobody is spared, Be it GOD or a common man.... Dharma and Karma pay off you deeds.... sins or virtues all upon them.
